GOLF QUOTE: The reason the pro tells you to keep your head down is so you can’t see him laughing. Fyi, if I swing at a ball and I miss, I would rather that my flight mates laugh at me than stay quiet and pretend they did not see. How very awkward!

Because of the recent events and labor disputes with Philippine Airlines, is the golf tournament scheduled for October 10-14 pushing through? No. I just heard. They will move the tournament to November. This means that we have more time to practice and make preparations. The hassle? For those who made vacation plans after the tournament, including me, I guess we all have to wait and see.

Have something to report? Tell us in text, photos or videos.

I joined the monthly medal tournament of Palos Verdes the other weekend. And to my surprise, I scored pretty well. I scored an 80, even with an out-of-bounds shot in hole no. 9. My ball fell into the ravine. It was only then when I found out that they had changed the ruling about falling into the ravine. Now, it is considered out-of-bounds. So when your ball falls into that, you have to hit again from your original position–the penalty is stroke and distance. And so, after more than a year, my name is finally back in the winners score board of Palos Verdes.

It has been a long time since I last joined–more than a year ago. People wondered why I stopped playing. It is because I injured my hand long ago, and while recuperating, my priorities simply changed when my father got sicker. Famous funny golf quote from Greg Norman: “I owe a lot to my parents, especially my mother and father.”

I injured my hand, not from golf, but from carrying heavy suitcases. I guess that will eventually happen when you shop so much when you travel. And when you travel with a couple of elderlies, one of your tasks is to become a porter.

After the recent monthly tournament, I injured myself again. This time, I had muscle pain on my right elbow. Because of that, I could not squeeze my right hand. It was painful. I had to rest it until the pain went away. Good thing my arm is fine now. Time to practice again.

Lesson learned–warm up and do some stretching before playing golf. Jean G. reminded me that a lot of injuries are caused by no good preparation before playing any sport. She is right. I refuse to think it has something to do with age! Stretching is a must, especially in golf. Stretching your musclesàand stretching your budget! FYI, playing golf has gotten more expensive over the years. Playing twice or three times a week may be a bit heavy on the pocket. Caddy’s fee alone is 350 pesos and up, add golf car rental, green fees, etc.

By the way, Jed Madela is going to perform during the Awards Night of the Pal Ladies Interclub Golf Tournament.

The Davao Clubs have all completed their line-up. I have mentioned the players of Rancho Palos Verdes and Apo Golf Club last week. The players of Davao City Golf Club are Sally Antivo (team captain), Jover Vergara, Stella Barnes, Vicky Tan, Faye Jayno, Honey Lopez, Joy Charman, and Socorro Supino.

Today, at Apo Golf Club, there is a PGA Invitational Golf Tournament. PGA? Yep. Tiger Woods and the rest of the gang are going to play. Seriously, PGA stands for Physicians Golfers Association and the members and friends will have a fund-raising golf tournament today. Goodluck to the participants.
