Free golf.

Now that’s a Christmas gift. Called Forest Park Golf Course on Friday looking for a
place to play on Christmas Day.

Folks at the clubhouse said come on out and play all you want,
as long as you don’t mind walking. The price: Free.

I showed up about 9:30 Christmas morning. The course was clear,
the pins were up, the sky was cloudless and the temperature was in
the 40s and climbing.

I played nine holes on Redbud, nine holes on Dogwood and nine
holes on Hawthorn. In a word: Awesome! Course was in great
shape.

Spent the Monday after Christmas cashing in a Groupon for two to
Normandie
Golf Club
. My buddy John and I teed it up about 10:45 a.m. It
was chilly, but it wasn’t too bad, given it was 29 degrees at 8
a.m.

The rain stayed at bay and aside for some wet bunkers, the
course was in great shape all considered. Greens were in good
condition and rolled true and fairways were in good shape as
well.

I’d love to play some more this week, with more good weather
ahead. However, I’ll be enjoying my favorite pastime — my children
will be flying in from Michigan to spend the week with me. Happy
holidays and see you next year!
